Many of us, upon arriving in southeast Alaska, usually begin our boating experience by purchasing a small 16-18 ft.aluminum skiff. It’s the perfect size boat to practice boating skills while exploring the remote bays and coves for crab and shrimp, accessing salmon fishing streams, or the secret halibut spots. Most skifffs are equipped with 25 to 40 hp. motors plus a smaller engine called a kicker that can be used for trolling or as an back-up if the main engine fails to operate.
Alaska Bob and his family have owned and operated Yamaha brand outboards for over tens years. We have been fortunate that we have only needed to use the kicker twice, once due to normal mechanical failure and the other while a mechanical failure was a result of the intake being plugged with kelp
